If you want scale, Facebook and Instagram will get you scale. These platforms have the largest addressable social media audience in South Africa, with targeting capabilities that have become increasingly sophisticated across demographics, behaviours, interests, and lookalike audiences.
Meta's auction rewards ad quality, relevance, and performance. Run a good campaign with strong creative and a relevant offer, and you will generate response. For B2C businesses in particular, paid Meta campaigns are often the most cost-effective way to drive inbound demand at volume.
And that is exactly where the problem starts.

Volume is not the same as qualification. Response is not the same as readiness. And the faster and cheaper you can generate inbound enquiries, the more important it becomes to have a robust qualification layer behind those enquiries, because the range of intent represented in that volume is wide.
Someone who clicks on a Facebook ad for a financial services offer might be seriously looking to consolidate debt. They might also be curiosity-clicking during a lunch break with no real urgency or intent to do anything. From the platform's perspective, both are clicks. From a sales team's perspective, they could not be more different.
The ad worked on both people. The offer caught their attention. The creative was relevant enough to produce a response. But only one of them represents a genuine commercial opportunity.

When businesses take that volume of responses and pass them directly to sales, they are asking the sales team to do the qualification work that the system should have done before the handover. That creates friction, wastes time, and produces the familiar pattern where marketing says the campaign performed and sales says the leads were poor quality.
Both are telling the truth. The campaign did produce responses. The leads were not qualified. Those two things are not contradictory. They are both true because volume and qualification are separate problems that require separate systems.
The platform creates the response. The pre-sales intelligence layer creates the qualification. You need both, operating in sequence, for paid Meta spend to produce the commercial return it is capable of.
Facebook and Instagram are excellent at generating the first step of the journey. PSI is built to handle the second.
